Digitaal Vrouwenlexicon van Nederland
Maria van Nassau
Fact, source, interpretation
History is stronger when it is clear where information comes from, where sources differ and where imagination begins.

The historical basis includes the Digital Women’s Lexicon of the Netherlands, the House Bergh archive and residents’ history, the Dutch Royal House, Paleis Het Loo and museum interpretations from House Bergh.
The number of Maria’s children shows how reliable sources can count differently. The Women’s Lexicon records seventeen births, one stillborn; House Bergh commonly describes sixteen children.
Historical portraits, scenes, colouring pages and video created with AI are visibly labelled at the image. They are not presented as authentic portraits, events or documents.
The publication approach follows the transparency principle of Article 50 of the EU AI Act: AI-generated or manipulated media are clearly disclosed, and available provenance metadata such as Content Credentials or C2PA should be preserved.
No invented quotations attributed to Maria; emotions are not presented as facts; AI images are labelled; differences between sources are explained; important historical claims are linked to source notes.
